Alaska is the 3rd least populous and the most sparsely populated of the 50 United States; nevertheless, it is by far the most populous territory located mostly north of the 60th parallel in North America, its population (the total estimated at 738,432 by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2015. Approximately half of Alaska’s residents live within the Anchorage metropolitan area. Alaska’s economy is dominated by the fishing, natural gas, and oil industries, resources which it has in abundance. Military bases and tourism are also a significant part of the economy.
The 2007 gross state product was $44.9 billion, 45th in the nation. Its per capita personal income for 2007 was $40,042, ranking 15th in the nation. According to a 2013 study by Phoenix Marketing International, Alaska had the fifth-largest number of millionaires per capita in the United States, with a ratio of 6.75 percent. The oil and gas industry dominates the Alaskan economy, with more than 80% of the state’s revenues derived from petroleum extraction. Alaska’s main export product (excluding oil and natural gas) is seafood, primarily salmon, cod, Pollock and crab.
The Alaska Convenience Store Market Alaska has home based chains (Tesoro 2Go, Denali Express, Northern Sales) as well its own distributors (Mad Al’s). Holiday Stations also has a dominant presence in the state. Grocery chain stations include Fred Meyer and Safeway/Carr’s.
The Alaska Restaurant & Retail Association
The formation is official, introducing the new Alaska Restaurant & Retail Association. The association is and will be comprised of both restaurant and retail businesses in Alaska.
